Edinburgh is a vibrant city with a broad range of land and cityscape to explore. In this one week course we will explore a range of possibilities in creating paintings and look at the process of making expressive art from sketchbook to canvas.

Whether you have an interest in landscape painting, figurative work or  contemporary painting, this course will push your creative buttons and help you further the process of making your own art.

After an introduction into contemporary art practice looking at artists such as Eardley and Doig, we will go out on location, using sketchbooks in the city to make a series of line and tone sketches from which we will develop a number of drawings , prints and studies.  Students will be taught by demonstration and on a one to one basis, where individual expression is encouraged.

At the end of the course you will have :

  • developed sketchbook drawings

  • used monotype printing

  • worked into coloured grounds

  • used collage and mixed media
