An exciting, creative short course exploring what abstract means to you.

Suitable for complete beginners as well as those who have painted before and who would like to develop their own abstract style.

Tutor led inspiring creative workshops: you will be led through a series of progressive workshops providing practical interactive sessions exploring and preparing surfaces, painting and using mixed
media techniques. You will be encouraged to express your own abstracted image or visual story. You can develop ideas, while experimenting with various techniques in painting (with acrylics), drawing, collage or mixed media.

Creating an abstract composition – getting started. Individual needs and personal strengths. Colour. Composition, media choice and application. Exploration of aims, ideas and themes .
‘Abstract Artists’ An element of informal theory will also be included looking at how some famous artists developed their own abstract style.

Materials List

A range of different tools and materials will be available to work with however the following are suggested as suitable for this course:

  • Acrylic paints - (consider either a box set of small size tubes or a selection including red, blue, yellow, black & white)

  • Mark Making Tools - Selection of brushes including (if you have) a home decorating brush. plastic store / bank cards (out of date!!)

  • Paper - cartridge paper either loose or A3 A4 sketchpad

  • Canvas (optional) - small / medium size canvases are widely available at supermarkets and art
