This course is part one, suitable for absolute beginners and those with a little drawing experience wishing to brush up on their basic skills.
Designed to instil confidence in those who have never or rarely drawn before, as well as refreshing existing skills in those who do some drawing on a regular basis this course offers a comprehensive guide to the fundamental elements of drawing and the possibilities it offers for further creative pursuits.
Helen describes the course thus:
"Drawing is a learnable skill! In this 10 week course we are starting at the very beginning where you don't have to know anything at all about how to draw. It is designed to take you step by step to give you all the practical techniques you need to draw with confidence. Drawing is our experience of the visual world the same as handwriting is to our spoken language. If you can write your name you can learn to draw!"
Different qualities are conveyed by different types of line, similar to nuances in speaking. Drawings improve after we learn to slow down and observe with care and precision. When you allow yourself time to look, you give yourself time to learn.
Starting with an exploration of the various grades of pencil and the use of line you will go on to learn a range of drawing techniques including scale, perspective, shading and composition.
This course will expand your basic knowledge and skills: once students have completed Part One, they may wish to progress to Part Two.
All materials are provided for this course.
