Developing Drawing Techniques

Service Description

This course will allow the student to develop a body of work through personal, directed and site-specific projects. In the studio-based work including working from the life model, students will be guided through exploratory drawing techniques which will broaden the scope of their visual mark making to include the sensations of touch and sound. Students will then be encouraged to make a series of related works using a range of materials, methods, scales and formats; challenging the possibilities of drawing on the senses to make dynamic textural works. The course will cover: • Developing skills within the sketchbook for recording, researching and evidencing work • Developing knowledge of materials and mixed media approaches • Employing and fusing a range of tools, materials and techniques • Develop a series of related works through personal and directed study references • Use photographic references to support developing ideas and themes • Introduction to relevant artists In the first class we will be working from the life model and the materials you will need to bring are: • Willow charcoal sticks and a stick of black compressed charcoal • Black conte stick (square block) • a plastic erasure • putty rubber • an old soft rag • A4 sketchbook • 1 sheet of cartridge paper A2 and 2 sheets of newsprint A2


Cancellation Policy

We will provide a 50% refund if you give written advance notice up to 30 days before the course start date. 0% refund 30 days before a course starts. Please note there is an administration fee of £5 payable in respect of such refunds to cover payment processing fees. You will need to inform a member of administration staff in writing by emailing EDS at info@edinburghdrawingschool.co.uk. Additionally, if you withdraw for any reason after the course has started you will not be entitled to a refund. We are a small business and we depend on every booking to ensure that classes can go ahead. If a student is unable to attend a class due to illness, then EDS must be informed immediately so that the tutor can be notified. If you are missing a class because you suspect that you have developed Covid-19, please let us know immediately so that we can alert fellow student and tutors. Non-attendance of classes/workshops does not automatically mean a refund, however EDS will assess the circumstances with fair and reasonable consideration.
