Calligraphy is often defined as the art of creative lettering. This planned course of lessons will teach you the basic strokes and proportions of the Foundational Hand, which is a great basis for gaining the confidence to explore and practise many other styles. Students will use broad-nibbed calligraphy pens to establish the basic hand.

These classes are aimed at complete beginners plus anyone with some previous lettering experience wishing to refresh and progress their technique. Those who have attended the class before are welcome to return to progress their technique and knowledge!

Classes will be taught by Edinburgh calligrapher and lettering artist Ali Crighton.

A Calligraphy pen and some paper will be needed, but for the first week, please bring an A3 layout pad and some pencils, a ruler and an eraser.

A suitable calligraphy pen may be purchased from Ali at the first class.

In order to fulfil our obligations to tutors and models, as well as sustaining cash flow to the school, please note that we are only able to offer 50% of each class capacity to those booking with credit. If you are not able to redeem your course credit this term, we will endeavour to honour your credit in the following term. Please read our Refund Policy closely.
