with artist Paul Mowat

Thursday 4th to Sunday 7th July

10am – 4pm

EDS Studio, 4 Thistle Street North West Lane

The figure has been a subject of fascination to the artist from the earliest forms of artistic expression, from Dürer to Doig it has been  a part of our creative expression.

On this four day course we will look at the figure, both life and draped , as a way of exploring composition and expression in painting.  Working in a range of palettes and on a variety of grounds we will explore the use of the human form in painting, working on spontaneous studies as well as more considered pieces.

Referencing a  range of figurative artists, students will be taken through some basic anatomy and we will  discuss colour, line and tone. Students will be encouraged to express themselves with a range of tools and a look at mark making techniques while exploring the narrative possibilities in figure composition.

This course is open to all levels of experience for those interested in developing a new interest or artists pushing further an existing practice. An introduction to line and tonal drawing, monotype printmaking, limited palette studies and full colour compositional painting will be covered.
