We are delighted to be able to continue with some of our classes in the studio again this January. As you might expect, there will be some changes to how we use the studio to allow each of our tutors, models and students enough space.

This term each of our life drawing classes will be open to four students and will run for a shorter period of time, with each block being five weeks long.

Due to the popular demand for life drawing classes, booking for the Spring Term will be limited to one five week block per student.

Graham has had many years’ experience in tutoring life drawing and is a well-known figure in the arts scene in Edinburgh. His own practice is rooted in drawing; both life and portraiture; and he now has collectors for his extraordinary drawings, and paintings, from all over the world.

Working from the nude model is a core activity within art practice and during this course you will be encouraged to develop your understanding of the human form, maintaining throughout a creative and personal approach. You will be working predominantly in charcoal.

This course will enable students to demonstrate that they are able to:

- Work with materials such as charcoal and pencil

- Understand proportion, body mass and structure

- Investigate new ways of looking at and understanding the human figure

- Take a personal and confident approach to drawing

Materials List

  • Willow charcoal thin and medium

  • Putty rubber (Daler-Rowney highly recommend)

  • Fixative spray (hairspray is a cheap alternative)

  • Masking tape

  • Recycled paper/sugar paper A1

Please read our Covid-19 Guidelines page for information about attending studio-based classes.

In order to fulfil our obligations to tutors and models, as well as sustaining cash flow to the school, please note that we are only able to offer 50% of each class capacity to those booking with credit. If you are not able to redeem your course credit this term, we will endeavour to honour your credit in the following term. Please read our Refund Policy closely.
