Led by artist Anna Wimbledon, this is a fantastic introduction to painting the figure in oils.
This course suitable for those who have never painted before,or who want to move on from waterbed paints, or to reinforce their oil skills.
Students will learn to experiment with and gain some mastery over their materials while learning to see colour, shape and tone.
Working from a live model each week, you will create short expressive sketches and under paintings, moving on to some larger compositions created over an extended period.
There will be demonstrations and plenty of one to one guidance.
Primed surfaces 12 x 14inch approx (card or board primed with acrylic primer or silk emulsion)
Oil Paints (preferably 'Artist quality' - Winsor & Newton are recommended)
- Yellow Ochre
- Bright Red
- Titanium White
- Any colours you already have
Zest-It or other low odour thinner (no white spirit or turps)
2 jars with lids
A2 tear off palette or other
Apron or painting shirt
A variety of brushes including a 1/2 inch, 1 inch (System 3 Daler Rowney filbert are good)
Please note that you will have to take all solvents and rags home at the end of the class.
With oil paint, it is best to try to get artist quality if you can. The cheaper paints have hardly any pigment in and are full of fillers. You end up using more and the colours are not strong. It better to have less of a range of colours and better quality.
