Service Description

Monday 25th April to Monday 27th June (10 Weeks) Students will be guided through the basics of oil painting, from how to prime a surface ready for painting, lay out a palette, work at the easel, mix colours and apply oil paint. You’ll learn which brushes to use for different effects, how to under-paint, draw with the paint, blend paint, work wet into wet, scrape back, hold your brush and develop brushwork. Students will focus on a range of different subject matter and techniques throughout the term, culminating in a personal project of their choice. You will build skills and knowledge, gain confidence and pick up tips for oil painting in a supportive and relaxed environment. A course handout will be provided by the tutor, detailing what students will cover on a weekly basis. This course is a great introduction for anyone who wants to learn about Oil Painting. Materials Required -Oil paints (Beginners/ starter sets are good value with a range of basic colours that can be supplemented) - A range of synthetic long handled brushes suitable for both acrylic and oil paint in a range of shapes and sizes (round, square/flat and pointed head ) approx. 6 different brushes per participant is ideal - One 1 inch household paint brush - Primed canvas paper or card - turpentine / turpentine organic alternative (ie Zest-it) - small bottle linseed oil (optional) - Masking tape - Glass jars with lids - Palette (this could be a large plate or plastic tray) - Soft rags Please read our Covid-19 Guidelines page for information about attending studio-based classes.
