This two day workshop is a great introduction for those who have little or no experience of oil painting. The workshop will include the basics of getting to know your materials, introduction to colours and colour mixing, care of brushes, along with tips and techniques to give you the confidence to paint with oils. We will start off with fun experimental exercises in working with colour and trying out blending, using the palette knife and making washes. After that we’ll try out our own original compositions, either from imagination or from a very simple still life set up. We will provide the oil paints, but feel free to bring your own if you wish (water soluble are fine too) Please bring the following materials: - Brushes – stiff brushes for oil painting. Flats, filberts, rounds, from size 2 – 20. - A palette knife and palette pad. - Plenty of cloths, and paper towel. - Either canvases or canvas paper, of any size you like. There will be a lunch break each day, students are welcome to eat in the studio or pop out for something. Painting can be messy so you may want to consider wearing a painting shirt or apron - please don'e wear your best clothes to the studio!
