Service Description

During this workshop students will learn how to keep and use a travel sketchbook. Students will have the chance to draw on location and to discover lesser known parts of the Edinburgh area as well as drawing in some of the most popular wonders of the city. Starting out with compositional thumbnail sketches and then moving on to larger, more considered drawings. Learning how to use diverse drawing and sketching techniques in order to render very varied types of objects, figures, architectural elements etc. Put a couple of pens in your pocket and go and draw pretty much anything. To get the most out of this course it is preferable to have some previous drawing experience; most importantly though, students should enjoy the experience of drawing! Materials list: Sketchbook, no smaller than A5 Pencils (a range of hard-soft HB-4B) Charcoal Rubber Pencil sharpener, with chamber to collect shavings Fine liners Watercolours, watercolour palette Some kitchen roll Brushes and a jar of water, or a waterbrush with a refillable reservoir Any other drawing materials that you like to work with! (Coloured pencils/pastels/pens) Things that help when working outside: Lots of layers (it can get cold when sitting/standing still) Bottle of water Lunch/a flask of tea
