Service Description

This class is suitable for those with a little experience of drawing or painting. Each week the group will work with a clothed model. Students will work from the live model to make a series of portrait drawings and paintings. Weeks 1 to 5 will concentrate on drawing skills and mixed media techniques-using materials including pencil, charcoal, graphite, ink, conte chalks and pastel. Weeks 6-10 will focus on painting techniques, composition, colour mixing and brushwork. The focus will be on creating a likeness and making unique and interesting artworks. Students will develop skills in mark making, line, tone, colour, form, composition and an understanding of the anatomy of the human head and hands. Classes will begin with a short demonstration showing how to utilise and engage with the materials that week. We will also look at examples of contemporary and historical Portraiture to inspire us. Materials List Basic drawing and painting materials to include the following - A range of pencils e.g. B, 2B, 4B, 6B - Graphite stick - Putty rubber - Charcoal - Charcoal pencil - White chalk - Black waterproof drawing ink - Heavyweight cartridge paper A1,A2 or A3 size - Masking tape - Coloured inks, pastels, conte chalks and other mixed media drawing materials (optional) For weeks 6 - 10 students will need - Paints (acrylic or oil) - A range brushes to use with their paints plus - 1x household paint brush for using with acrylic or oil paint - Zest-It or other low-odour alternative to use if painting in oils - Palette for mixing paints - Card, board or canvas for painting on. - An apron or protective clothing

Cancellation Policy

We will provide a refund if you give written advance notice up to 14 days before the course start date. Please note there is an administration fee of £5 payable in respect of such refunds to cover payment processing fees. You will need to inform a member of administration staff in writing by emailing EDS at info@edinburghdrawingschool.co.uk. Please note, if you withdraw for any reason after the course has started you will not be entitled to a refund. We are a small business and we depend on every booking to ensure that classes can go ahead. If a student is unable to attend a class due to illness, then EDS must be informed immediately so that the tutor can be notified. If you are missing a class because you suspect that you have developed Covid-19, please let us know immediately so that we can alert fellow student and tutors. Non-attendance of classes/workshops does not automatically mean a refund, however EDS will assess the circumstances with fair and reasonable consideration.
