with artist & tutor Alicia Coombs Thursdays 4.30 - 6.30pm 21st September to 30th November

  • Ended
  • 235 British pounds
  • Great King Street

Service Description

Come join a class exploring sole observation from life. Variety in subject is very popular with young adults while they navigate and discover what subjects they most enjoy drawing. Over these ten weeks, Alicia will guide the group each week discussing a key focus for that particular lesson, whether that be to look for 'soft or sharp edges' on a portrait, cast shadows from the model's hat, how to explain in drawing 'fast or slow' transitions between angular or rounded edges. Different surfaces have different textures, how can this be represented through drawing? Areas of the face have smooth slow transitions, compared to more abrupt places between the creese of noses and cheeks. Every week the group will have a live model to study portraiture and composition from, and will have the benefit of drawing in the newly acquired model room on Great King Street. The model room faces north and enjoys the quality of north light streaming in the windows onto any subject that is drawn or painted in there. Alicia Coombs is a classically trained artist and graduate of The Florence Academy of Art. She has extensive experince in mentoring young people and has taught privately and in schools for the past 15 years. All materials provided by The Edinburgh Drawing School. If you wish to purchase some boxes of higher quality 'Nitram' charcoal and sanding block you are very welcome to do so and bring along to the class.
