“A drawing can show more than simply what something looks like. It can tell stories of the places you have been to and the things you have seen. It can record moments, objects or scenes that you want to remember.” - Matilda Tristram.
Using a travel sketchbook we will record our visits to various indoor and outdoor locations across Edinburgh using a diverse range of drawing and sketching materials, methods and techniques. We will build enough confidence to use our sketchbooks to draw anything, anywhere at any time!
This course will encourage us to take notice of our surroundings and make a visual record of the city, including architecture, human figures and green spaces, through observational drawing.
To get the most out of this course it is preferable to have some previous drawing experience; most importantly though, students should enjoy the experience of drawing and be ready to experiment and have fun!
a sketchbook, rectangular or square, of a size around A4 (no smaller than A5)

a water brush (it is a brush that has a refillable water reservoir), it is made by pentel, caran d'ache and others.
a couple of waterproof fine liners of different thicknesses (zig millenium, faber Castell, Rotring, staedtler,.. any make you like) 0.3 and 0.8, or 0.1 and 0.5, or SF and M..
a black or brown brush pen (the Pentel ones with the 2 cartridges are the best, but the Tombow are fine and cheaper for beginners)

a small set of (cheap) oil pastels is optional (only if you fancy trying it!)
