Beginners Oil Painting

Service Description

Students will be guided step by step through the basics of oil painting, from how to prime a surface ready for painting, lay out a palette, how to thin paint, mix colours and apply oil paint. You’ll learn which brushes to use for different effects, how to under-paint, draw with the paint, blend paint, work wet into wet, scrape back and develop brushwork. Students will work from a range of different subject matter to experiment and try out a variety of oil painting techniques. This course is a must if you have always wanted to try oil painting but don’t know where to start. You will build skills and knowledge, gain confidence and pick up tips for oil painting in a supportive and relaxed environment. A course handout will be provided by the tutor, detailing what students will cover on a weekly basis. Materials required - Oil paints (Beginners/ starter sets are good value with a range of basic colours that can be supplemented) - A range of synthetic long handled brushes suitable for both acrylic and oil paint in a range of shapes and sizes (round, square/flat and pointed head ) approx. 6 different brushes per participant is ideal - One 1 inch household paint brush - Primed canvas paper or card - Zest It (Oil Paint Dilutant and Brush Cleaner) - Small bottle linseed oil (optional) - Masking tape - Glass jars with lids - Palette (this could be a large plate or plastic tray) - Soft rags


Cancellation Policy

We will provide a 50% refund if you give written advance notice up to 30 days before the course start date. 0% refund 30 days before a course starts. Please note there is an administration fee of £5 payable in respect of such refunds to cover payment processing fees. You will need to inform a member of administration staff in writing by emailing EDS at info@edinburghdrawingschool.co.uk. Additionally, if you withdraw for any reason after the course has started you will not be entitled to a refund. We are a small business and we depend on every booking to ensure that classes can go ahead. If a student is unable to attend a class due to illness, then EDS must be informed immediately so that the tutor can be notified. If you are missing a class because you suspect that you have developed Covid-19, please let us know immediately so that we can alert fellow student and tutors. Non-attendance of classes/workshops does not automatically mean a refund, however EDS will assess the circumstance
