Service Description

All Materials Provided to a value of £100 per student. No Class 27th November No Class 19th February Students must bring a set of their own brushes This course is designed to stylistically expand upon your fundamental knowledge of painting the portrait. Once the indirect process becomes familiar, you can implement the tools needed to stack and blend colour on the canvas in a single sitting (Alla Prima), or carry the style into as few sittings as possible. Ultimately, this becomes a course in paint handling and brush applications that give evidence of indirect (layered) form building knowledge, but in a more direct manor. This approach to oil painting leaves most artists exhilarated from the complete immersion required. Imagine a Wimbledon tennis match! This is it but in paint form!... fast, dynamic and concentrated. Notable artists associated with Alla Prima: Richard Schmidt, and Frans Hals. Demonstrations will be made where appropriate. Each session will have activities that strengthen confidence in edge control and colour/value relationships. Small head studies will be made as a tool to carry forward into larger, more developed paintings from the model.
