Service Description

Join Edinburgh-based artist and tutor James Potter introductory course on impressionist watercolour painting. Impressionist watercolour painting is the art of direct painting, which gives a realistic and natural impression of the scene or object, maintaining a lively paint surface with luminous colours, all without the need of going into great detail. The aim of this course is to give students the ability to simplify the subject and produce quicker paintings, yet still give very satisfying results and to learn to see with fresh eyes. This course is suitable for beginners and those with a little experience. Water pots, boards, ceramic plates and kitchen roll are provided. Please bring along the following materials each week: • Paints: James recommends Winsor and Newton artists tube paints in colours - Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, Cerulean Blue, Viridian, Cadmium Yellow, Raw Sienna, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna , Cadmium Red, Ivory black (optional) • Brushes: James recommends Isabey 6234 Numbers 2, 4, 6, and 8 (Squirrel mop brushes with a few finer sable ones). However you may bring along any watercolour brushes you wish. • Paper: James recommends Bockingford NOT (cold pressed) paper 140lb or 240lb, however if you would prefer to buy a pad of watercolour paper the thicker the better! • We provide ceramic plates to use as a palette, however James like to use a Holbein Palette (optional) • An HB pencil • Masking tape
