Service Description

This class is a follow-up to ‘introduction to drawing’ and will build on some of the ideas and exercises we worked on. So if you did the previous class or have some familiarity with basic drawing skills, this class is for you. This course is for those who have some familiarity with drawing, but complete beginners are welcome. During the one-to-one teaching, Meg will work with students to support them at whatever level they are at. A series of practical workshops lead by artist Meg Buick in which students will be taught a range of approaches for drawing from life. Sessions will start by considering and discussing the work of an artist, with a focus on a particular technique. Students will then have the opportunity to draw from life, and encouraged to focus on a specific aspect of drawing each session. They will be introduced to tone, line, texture, form, space and composition, and work from a range of materials to try out simple drawing exercises. The teaching will focus on supporting learners in finding their unique voice as an artist: demystifying the process of drawing whilst deepening the mystery! Students will be given optional 'homework' to do in between classes - sketchbook and pencils required. Meg has exhibited work both in the UK and internationally. Her print ‘Dog’ was selected for the collection at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford and the Jiangsu Art Museum in China. In 2018 artist Marcus Cornish selected her work for inclusion in Flowers Gallery‘s long-running West End exhibition programme "Artist of the Day", where works have been selected by leading contemporary artists since 1983. The revolving two week exhibition schedule provides a platform for a selected group of artists each year, each presenting a one day solo exhibition at Flowers Gallery’s Mayfair location. In 2020 she was shortlisted for the Discerning Eye Drawing Bursary. Meg has taught Painting, Drawing and Printmaking at various art schools, and this year we are delighted she has joined us up in Scotland at The Edinburgh Drawing School
