Service Description

Reading the Landscape: Mixed media sketches to finished oil studio pieces. Join Scottish painter Fee Dickson Reid on an intensive 5-day exploration of Auchencairn's sublime landscapes. This immersive course is designed to deepen your understanding of your surroundings and empower you to express the spirit of place through oil painting. From quick sketches to final canvases, each day offers a blend of outdoor experiences and studio sessions. Day 1: Exploration Morning: Introduction to Auchencairn, it's history, and cultural significance. Exploring the landscape with sketchpads in hand. Afternoon: Continue outdoor sketching session, quick fire sketches with limited materials Evening: Sunset walk, capturing the landscape's essence in the stillness Day 2: In-Depth Sketches Morning: Sunrise walk. Midmorning/Afternoon: More in depth sketches, using a much wider variety of materials, surfaces, found objects. The emphasis at this point is still on absorbing the landscape rather than reproducing. Day 3: Oil Painting Demonstration Morning: Oil painting demonstration by Fee Dickson Reid; setting everyone up in the studio and beginning to paint small studies - Afternoon: Studio session focusing on techniques, colour mixing, and composition - Evening: sunset walk Day 4: Landscape Integration - Morning: Outdoor session armed with knowledge gained from oil painting demonstration - Afternoon: Return to the studio, beginning compositions for final pieces Day 5: Final Pieces - Morning: Sunrise walk - Morning/Afternoon: Studio time to create one or two finished oil paintings Course Highlights: - Perspective and Composition: Understand the visual elements that make landscapes compelling. - Colour Mixing and Tone: Learn to capture the nuances of light and shadow in the Scottish landscape. - Material Exploration: Experiment with a variety of materials, surfaces, and found objects in your sketches - Weather-Adaptive Schedule Prices range from £1700 - £2300 pp Ex VAT depending on which room you book. Cancellation Policy

We will provide a 50% refund if you give written advance notice up to 30 days before the course start date. 0% refund 30 days before a course starts. Please note there is an administration fee of £5 payable in respect of such refunds to cover payment processing fees. You will need to inform a member of administration staff in writing by emailing EDS at info@edinburghdrawingschool.co.uk. Additionally, if you withdraw for any reason after the course has started you will not be entitled to a refund. We are a small business and we depend on every booking to ensure that classes can go ahead. If a student is unable to attend a class due to illness, then EDS must be informed immediately so that the tutor can be notified. If you are missing a class because you suspect that you have developed Covid-19, please let us know immediately so that we can alert fellow student and tutors. Non-attendance of classes/workshops does not automatically mean a refund, however EDS will assess the circumstance
