Over 5 weeks you will sculpt the portrait from the live model, for 2.5 hours each session. The model will pose for three or the five sessions, thus allowing the students to work from life and stationary images. On weeks 1,3 & 5 you will sculpt the portrait from life, and on weeks 2 & 4 you will use supporting images. The armatures, water based clay and tripods are provided by the school. The course takes place in our well lit north facing New Town studio on Great King Street. This course is suitable for anyone with any proficiency in sculpting, but who would like to identify the portrait in tactile 3 dimension. The course is intentionally designed to allow the student to not feel rushed and to really engage, feel immersed, and come away with a sense of really having accrued skills by the end of the course. Hector is from Perthshire originally and having grown up there instilled a special appreciation of the shapes and forms of nature. This developed into an enduring love of art and especially of painting and sculpture. His desire to develop his art led him to the home of renaissance art, Florence Italy, and to the traditional atelier of Charles H Cecil studios, where he studied painting and sculpture. Hector’s sculptures offer a unique insight, blending natural and abstract forms. He seeks to explore the spaces beyond the rational, illuminating the unconscious worlds within our human condition. He sculpts in the traditional material of clay, which is then cast in either bronze or bronze resin. His teaching style is balanced and he strikes a good cord between the amount of critique, support and guidance he gives. All materials are provided, but please do bring along your own sculpting tools such as this set: https://www.scarva.com/Mobile/en/Scarva-Tools-Sculpting-Tool-Kit/m-m-1155.aspx
