Service Description

This course is suitable for intermediate students and those who have used oil paint before, especially those who have painted from the nude model. A discount of £20 per course applies if both courses are taken, totalling £40 discount (please contact the school) Day 1: On the first day, we will start with a presentation on tonal range and provide examples. The class will create a transcription, and afterward, we will paint from a live model. Day 2: The second day will begin with painting in several tonal ranges, either still life or transcription. After that, we will paint from the model. Day 3: Our focus on the third day will be on edges and how they can completely change a painting. We will also paint from a live model. This course centres on refining the quality of tonality in painting, drawing inspiration from art history by examining, replicating, and transcribing selected paintings. Students will have the opportunity to paint from a live model. The curriculum aims to foster a profound understanding of the tonal spectrum within oil painting, spanning from darks to lights. Exploring tonal decision-making and the influence of edges on the tonal narrative, the course encourages students to perceive the world and approach painting in a distinctly painterly and tonal manner. Yuval Yosifov is a contemporary figurative and observational painter, renowned for her figure oil paintings. Based in Tel Aviv, she both practices and teaches art. Her focus lies in mastering the principles of drawing from life, diversity of edges, tones, and harmony of colours. Yuval received training at the "Jerusalem Studio School" under the guidance of Yedidya Hershberg, Deborah Sebaoun, and Israel Hershberg. She has showcased her work internationally, including exhibitions in Europe and the US. Notably, she participated in the Royal Society of British Artists' annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries and secured the second prize at the Hampstead Society, awarded by Michael Harding. Her art has graced venues such as the Figure Ground Gallery in Seattle and the Lyme Academy Exhibition. Recently, she held her inaugural solo exhibition, "Tonal Stories," at the Rothschild Gallery. materials list: please request from The Edinburgh Drawing School info@edinburghdrawingschool.co.uk
