Travel Sketchbook

  • 320 British pounds
  • Great King Street

Service Description

This is a fun chilled out group who will meet every Saturday at 10am for a few hours, come rain or shine! However, the 'power of the sketch' is often an overlooked element of artistic practise. It is through such a level of carefree spontaneity that we often understand our unique qualities as draughtsmen and women and in doing so, can gain added understanding of ourselves. Using mindfulness as a method, drawing becomes a playful and powerful tool to make a deeper connection to the world around us. As Van Gogh once said: “Drawing is the root of everything.” Under Jonathan's expert guidance, you will explore iconic or even perhaps some of the little known nooks and crannies of Edinburgh. With Jonathan, he will assist and advise you on everything from composition to colour in your sketches, amongst good company, good coffee and lovely scenery! You then for the rest of the week can bring on your small sketches at home, into larger paintings or drawings for Jonathan to critique when you meet the following week. The indoor studio is also at the groups' disposal, weather dependent, where you may work on your drawings for Jonathan to bring you there as an option. He will instruct the group each week on the meeting place for Saturday mornings at 10am, with indoor options chosen should the weather not be on our side. Materials: Sketchbook Pencils Eraser A pot or two of sepia ink (we will do twig and ink one week) A set of watercolours Plastic plate - A small folding tripod camping chair can be useful - A rain jacket just incase! - And of course, please bring yourself!
